Before I met her, the photographer asked me if there was any word that was used against me that really bothered me.
The only word I could think of that actually hurt was “faggot.”
I’m not gay. I just hate the bigotry and hate that is expressed when someone spews that word at you like acid.
She asked me one word I used to rise up above it, and I couldn’t really think of one. The first thing I thought of was “bigotry,” but that was just setting me down to their level.
I decided on “pride.” I’m proud of who I am, and I’m proud for the gay community for their strength under such vicious hatred in the world.
